London-based PV generator Lightsource Renewable Energy says it commissioned 133MW of capacity in the “robust” UK market during the first quarter – more than one-third of the total brought on line across the country.

The 34 Lightsource-owned projects that were energised in the first three months of 2012 represented £180m ($275m), and lifted the company’s operational total capacity to 250MW.

Lightsource builds and operates the projects for its financing partner, London-based fund manager Octopus Investments. In many cases it hires outside contractors, such as SolarCentury, to perform downstream system integration work.

Among the recent projects it brought on line is a 5MW project atop carmaker Bentley’s factory in Crewe – currently the largest rooftop PV system in the UK.
