US Interior Secretary Ken Salazar will leave President Obama’s cabinet in March.

The Denver Post reports that the 57-year-old will return to Colorado to spend time with his family.

President Barack Obama is believed to have wanted Salazar to stay on in the cabinet.

The former US senator has been at the forefront of the administration's push to reduce American dependence on foreign oil while promoting renewables. He has described advancing the clean-energy agenda as one of the proudest achievements of his term.
