China breakthrough at last for First Solar with 2MW sale

First Solar will supply 2MW of its thin-film modules to Chinese developer Zhenfa New Energy, marking the US PV giant's first commercial deal in China.

First Solar has been trying to sell its panels in China for some time but has struggled to shift the relatively unknown cadmium-telluride technology in the country.

The new deal will see its equipment installed in Xinjiang province in the first quarter of 2013.

First Solar says it will provide a “strong platform” to showcase the company’s technology in the fast-growing Chinese market.
