LDK-owned PV group Sunways may axe 40% of workers

German PV manufacturer Sunways says it may cut its workforce by up to 40% and will put the brakes on production at its cell plant in Arnstadt, Germany.

Sunways – which is owned by China’s LDK Solar – says its Sunways Production division, which operates Arnstadt, “is presently not in a position to operate profitably”.

Sunways plans to cut by about half the 120 employees currently working there and will “significantly reduce the production and development activities of Sunways Production until at least a breakeven situation can be achieved again”.

The Konstanz-based Sunways Group as a whole could see about 40% of its 265 staff lose their jobs, says the company, which has started talks with workers’ representatives.
