Telecoms group SoftBank to install 4MW of rooftop PV

SoftBank established its renewable energy division in October 2011

Japanese mobile-phone service provider SoftBank plans to install solar panels on top of 1,000 homes across Japan in the latest move to grow its renewable energy investments.

Under the "Ouchi power project" initiative, SoftBank’s SB Energy unit will install about 4MW of panels on homes in 31 prefectures.

SoftBank declined to reveal how much it plans to invest in the push, which will be SB Energy's first rooftop solar project. SoftBank established the renewable energy division in October 2011.

SoftBank plans to sell the power generated to major utility companies.
