Duke Energy adds Gato Montes project to solar portfolio

Duke Energy has acquired the 6MW Gato Montes Solar Power Project in Tucson, Arizona, from AstroSol, with commercial operation scheduled within the next week.

Financial terms were not made public. The project is located within the University of Arizona's Science and Technology Park, an area dedicated to solar energy.

Tucson Electric Power Company (TEP) will buy all of the electricity from the project under a 20-year agreement.

The solar photovoltaic thin-film, amorphous silicon technology used in the Gato Montes project is a first in the Duke Energy solar fleet, which now totals 37MW capacity among five projects in Arizona and 67MW overall.
