GCL and Suntech unveil 250MW of South Africa PV orders

Chinese solar giants GCL-Poly and Suntech have unveiled a total of 250MW of supply deals for the emerging South African PV market.

GCL will handle the procurement of modules for two 75MW projects underway as a result of South Africa’s first renewable energy tender.

The Chinese group says the modules will use its own wafers. GCL chairman Zhu Gongshan says: “This transaction not only facilitates additional sales channel for our wafers, it also demonstrates our ability to provide integrated PV system solutions in the global market.”

Both plants have 20-year power purchase agreements with Eskom, the South African state utility.
