BioTherm secures finance for South African PV, wind plants

South African developer BioTherm Energy has closed financing on three renewables projects awarded in the first bidding round – two PV and one wind – led by its backer Denham Capital.

BioTherm has tapped Germany’s Juwi Solar to act as engineering, procurement and construction contractor for its two first-round PV projects, totaling 20MW, in Northern Cape.

A group of companies including Chinese turbine maker Sinovel and Iberdrola will build its 27MW Dassiesklip wind farm in Western Cape, using nine of Sinovel’s 3MW turbines.

BioTherm intends to maintain its own plants, boosting the local economies.
