GT Advanced warns of job cuts if PV trade war escalates

GT Advanced Technologies, one of the largest US suppliers of PV production equipment, warns that it would be hit hard by an all-out global solar trade war – and stands ready to slim its headcount.

GT is among the world’s leading suppliers of machines used to make PV-grade polysilicon and ingots, with a long roster of major global clients, from China’s GCL-Poly to Korea’s OCI.

GT says its Chinese customers would face “significant consequences” if the EU decides to impose tariffs on China-made PV components.

While GT “could potentially” drum up new business from polysilicon manufacturers outside of China looking to take up the slack, the outlook is muddied by China’s own threat to slap tariffs on polysilicon produced in the EU, the US and Korea.
