Kyocera targets 1GW annual output of solar cells by 2013

Kyocera is eyeing an annual output of 1GW of solar cells after operations start at its new Yasu manufacturing plant in Shiga Prefecture, Japan.

Kyocera’s ambitious target to reach 1GW by March 2013 will be supported by its existing Shiga Yohkaichi plant, the company says.

Its new Yasu solar cell plant, completed in March this year, is the company’s largest domestic manufacturing facilities.

The facility uses an enhanced manufacturing line and will produce multi crystalline solar cells with 16.9% energy conversion efficiency.
