BioSolar has started high volume commercial production of its bio-based backsheet

Califonia’s BioSolar has started high volume commercial production of its bio-based backsheet for solar panels.

BioSolar is also developing photovoltaic (PV) module components from renewable plant sources.

The BioBacksheet, a protective backing for PV modules, is made of polyamide resin derived from castor beans.

Compounded with another non-petroleum material during extrusion, a durable backsheet is formed.

“Over the past month, we have been demonstrating the BioBacksheet to major solar panel manufacturers,” says chief executive David Lee.

“Many have requested large quantities for full scale integration trials into their solar panel production lines.”

Lee adds: “BioBacksheet’s monolithic construction does not exhibit inter-layer de-lamination, a common problem in conventional laminated backsheets.
