Tata executive says India has cause to probe China PV

India’s government would be justified in pursuing an anti-dumping investigation of Chinese PV manufacturers – but has botched the local-content provisions in the country’s National Solar Mission (NSM), says Anjan Ghosh, senior general manager at Tata Power Solar.

Tata “fully supports” the notion that embargoes, anti-dumping measures and trade barriers are an impediment to growth of the global PV industry, Ghosh says.

However, referring to the US government’s preliminary anti-dumping tariffs on China-made PV cells and the EU’s recent decision to launch its own investigation, Ghosh says: “When you see things like this happening, there are reasons for it.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if India tries something like that,” he adds.

“It’s not just out of hate that these things are being implemented in the US and EU,” Ghosh says.…
