First Solar gets 61MW order for Catalina PV plant in California

First Solar has signed a deal to supply thin-film PV modules for a portion of the Catalina project being built by developer EnXco in California.

EnXco will take 61MW of modules from First Solar at the plant in Kern County, with deliveries starting in September.

Catalina is being built in two phases, with completion due in June 2013.

EnXco – a subsidiary of France’s EDF Energies Nouvelles – has a 25-year power-purchase agreement to deliver output from 130MW to San Diego Gas & Electric.

In January the developer signed a deal with thin-film producer Solar Frontier to equip part of the project’s first phase.
