Duke expands solar footprint in Arizona with acquisition

A unit of Duke Energy has acquired a 10MW Black Mountain Solar Project from Solon Corp., the third utility-scale solar facility it now owns in Arizona.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Duke Energy Renewables (DER) expects that Black Mountain will begin commercial operation in October and provide power for about 2,000 homes in the Kingman area.

UniSource Energy Services, a utility with 237,000 customers in Arizona, will purchase the electricity through a 20-year power purchase agreement.

“This acquisition expands our footprint in the western US and helps a premier Arizona energy service provider deliver affordable, zero-emission renewable power to its customers,” says DER President Greg Wolf.
