Taiwan PV giant to emerge from Neo Solar, DelSolar tie-up

Taiwanese cell makers Neo Solar Power (NSP) and DelSolar will form a “strategic co-operation” with an eye towards a potential merger, in a deal with significant consequences for the ongoing consolidation of the global PV industry.

The agreement will see NSP launch a tender offer for as much as 15% of outstanding shares in DelSolar, with the offer to run from 20 November to 14 December.

More significantly, the two companies are assessing the possibility of a full merger, which would see the creation of the largest Taiwanese PV manufacturer – leapfrogging rivals such as Motech and Gintech.

Recent press reports have suggested that Motech has been in talks regarding a potential NSP takeover.
