Isofoton adds to South American solar push with 50MW plant

Resurgent Spanish PV manufacturer Isofoton has inked an agreement with the government of Ecuador to build a 50MW solar array in the country, becoming the latest player to unfurl its battle plans for the Latin American market.

The project, slated for installation on the outskirts of the capital city Quito, is expected to cost €100m ($127.4m), generate more than 84MWh of power each year, and benefit from a feed-in tariff introduced by the Ecuadorian government last year.

Although Isofoton has been present in Latin America for years, the Ecuador project represents a major step forward. Chief executive Ángel Luis Serrano says the project “reaffirms” the company’s pivot towards emerging markets, which "will lead the PV market in the next 10 years”.
