China puts up more funding to help stimulate solar growth

China has pushed policies to promote smaller, distributed solar projects

China is releasing funding for a second round of demonstration solar projects as it seeks to stimulate the domestic market in a bid to help local module manufacturers.

The Ministry of Finance issued a call for new applications from regional governments for subsidies for both rooftop and building-integrated solar projects.

The projects will receive a subsidy of 5.5 yuan ($0.88) per watt and must be completed by the end of June 2013, according to a statement on the ministry’s website.

Beijing has already approved 1.7GW of demonstration projects under its Golden Sun programme this year.

Industry rumours suggest it could approve an additional 1GW of projects in the widely anticipated second round.
