Amonix claims 33.5% efficiency in CPV solar module testing

Concentrating PV specialist Amonix claims to have successfully converted 33.5% of direct sunlight into electricity, breaking its previous record of 30.3%, during several days of on-sun testing with the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).

“This is a huge milestone for Amonix and the CPV industry,” Amonix founder Vahan Garboushian says, noting that module efficiency peaked at 34.2%.

Sarah Kurtz, reliability group manager at NREL, says much of the world is unaware of the “dramatic progress” made by CPV companies toward achieving high power-conversion efficiencies.

The achievement of 33.3% efficiency for a commercial module augers well for industry efforts to drive down the cost of large-scale manufacturing, Kurtz says.

Amonix is private owned. Among its investors are Goldman Sachs, PCG Clean Energy & Technology Fund, Vedanta Capital Log in to read complete article.
