France boosts small solar with higher FIT in policy overhaul

The French PV industry sees the announcements as a "significant first step"

France has taken the highly unusual step of increasing the feed-in tariff (FIT) for PV installations smaller than 100kW, as part of a suite of policy changes the new government hopes will re-establish the country as a hub of solar innovation and investment.

Following the environmental conference held by the government last month – which left many in the renewables business underwhelmed by its lack of specifics – the administration of President Francois Hollande has at last shown its hand as to the sort of policies it believes will re-ignite the flat-lining French solar industry.
