China's Hanergy 'to pay $30m' for US CIGS specialist MiaSolé

Beijing-based Hanergy has moved strongly into amorphous silicon (a-Si) thin-film PV in recent years

China’s Hanergy intends to acquire struggling US solar-module producer MiaSolé, cementing its position as one of the most aggressive thin-film companies in the world following its purchase of Q-Cells’ subsidiary Solibro earlier this year.

The takeover of MiaSolé, which was openly seeking a buyer after undergoing several major restructuring programmes this year, is expected to close by late October.

Hanergy will pay about $30m for MiaSolé, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, which first broke the story after getting its hands on a shareholder letter. No public statements have yet been made by either company.

The low purchase price underscores the massive depreciation seen in company valuations across the PV industry, from large publicly listed companies like Suntech to small technology start-ups.
