Trump left red faced as UK anti-wind ad is ruled misleading

A campaign led by US tycoon Donald Trump has fallen foul of the UK’s advertising watchdog for using a picture of rusting turbines in Hawaii in a campaign against wind development in Scotland.

The Advertising Standards Authority says the image of the unsightly machines alongside the headline “Welcome to Scotland!” was misleading and broke its code of conduct

The actual turbines were part of a wind farm in the US island state that was decommissioned in 2006.

Communities Against Turbines Scotland (CATS) and the Trump Organisation were also rapped for printing the claim that "[Scottish First Minister ]Alex Salmond wants to build 8,750 of these monstrosities".

The ASA’s adjudication says the actual estimated total given in Scottish government policy papers is 5,645.
