Germany adds 543MW of PV in July as FIT effect is felt

July represented a watershed month for Germany's pioneering renewables law, passed at the Bundestag in Berlin

Germany’s new feed-in tariff (FIT) system appears to be having the desired effect – albeit at a more muted level than Berlin had hoped – with PV installations slowing modestly in July compared to last year.

Germany added another 543MW of PV capacity in July, according to the Federal Network Agency. While that would be a banner month for any other market in the world, it represents a slight decrease from the 572MW that Germany added during July 2011.

The decline is important, given the explosion of installations in the first six months of the year. Germany added 4.3GW of new PV capacity during the first half of 2012 – compared to 2.29GW during the same period last year, which was itself a record-smashing…
