PV giant Suntech joins rivals by cutting shipment forecast

Chinese solar module giant Suntech cut its 2012 shipment forecast as it released preliminary second-quarter financial figures that are subject to the outcome of a fraud inquiry.

The company became the latest of China’s big PV equipment groups to downgrade its full-year guidance, following peers Yingli and JA Solar earlier this week.

Suntech says it now expects to ship between 1.8GW and 2GW this year. It had previously guided the market to a full-year total of 2.1GW to 2.5GW.

The company posted a second-quarter negative gross margin of 10% on revenues of about $471m, well down on the $830.7m it pulled in during the same three months last year.
