JA Solar sees looming grid-parity triggering 'explosive growth'

JA Solar chief executive Fang Peng claims looming grid-parity will trigger a second wave of “explosive growth” in the global PV industry – this time led by market fundamentals and not government subsidies.

In a keynote speech to the Australian Solar Energy Society’s East Solar Conference in Melbourne, Fang says that although the current downturn in the PV market is a concern, it is a natural response to the first phase of exponential growth that started in 2010.

“As grid-parity is reached, the market will lead the second wave of explosive growth,” he predicts.

Fang expects parity in many key regions of the world by 2015 and on a global basis within the next 10 years.
