Japan's Orix sets out big PV ambitions with plans for 200MW

Japanese conglomerate Orix plans to invest 54bn yen ($680m) to develop solar projects with a capacity of 200MW in the country over the next three years.

Orix will enter the large-scale solar sector via an initial investment of 30bn yen to develop 100MW of plant capacity, its management said during a corporate presentation.

The group will spend a further 24bn yen over three years leasing space from factories and warehouses for the installation of up to 100MW of rooftop solar.

The Tokyo Shimbun newspaper reported that Orix’s total investment could reach 100bn yen and 400MW.

The plans follow the July launch of new Japanese government incentives for renewable power generation.
