SolarWorld plans $27m upgrade to Oregon PV factory

SolarWorld plans to invest $27m in improvements to its Oregon factory during the next nine months.

The US unit of the German company at the centre of a global trade row will upgrade and replace several systems at its vertically-integrated solar plant outside of Portland. The changes will introduce three "technological advances" – unspecified "for competitive reasons" – that SolarWorld says will improve power output of its PV cells.

SolarWorld says the upgrades come from its own research and development work in Oregon and Europe.
