Solar's ring-fence to go, says Australian funding supremo

The independent body set up to administer A$3.2bn ($3.3bn) of Australian government funding for renewable energy projects will not ring-fence a previously-allocated A$1.5bn for solar technology, its new chairman tells Recharge.

The decision will leave projects that hoped to bid for cash not yet allocated under Australia's Solar Flagships scheme competing with other technologies.

Greg Bourne, chairman of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (Arena), says all of the federal government’s existing funding programmes – including the Solar Flagships scheme to back large-scale solar – have been streamed into the new agency’s funding pool.
