SolarWorld files EU trade complaint against Chinese rivals

SolarWorld and other unidentified European PV manufacturers have lodged a formal trade complaint in Brussels against Chinese cell makers, further raising the stakes in the trade war rippling across the global solar industry.

The petition was lodged quietly at the European Commission (EC), with no statement published by SolarWorld – a sharp contrast with its clamorous language in recent months regarding the alleged practices of Chinese firms.

Instead, players on the other side of the debate seized the opportunity to take a swipe at SolarWorld, with the Coalition for Affordable Solar Energy – a group comprising Chinese companies and other Western firms that benefit from cheap modules – calling the German PV group a “crazed agent provocateur”.

The EC has 45 days to decide…
