Dow Corning chief warns of poly-tariff peril for US and China

The boss of global silicon giant Dow Corning is warning that Chinese duties on polysilicon imports from the US would have serious consequences for the American solar industry and that of China itself.

Reacting to news of a Chinese government probe into the issue, Dow Corning chief executive Robert Hansen says the widening trade conflict would hit Michigan-based Hemlock Semiconductor – one of the world’s biggest producers of PV-grade polysilicon, in which Dow Corning is the biggest shareholder.

“This issue is serious and could impact Hemlock Semiconductor's ability to sell material to China – its largest market,” says Hansen.
