GE 'pauses' build of US PV factory for at least 18 months

General Electric is "pausing" construction of its planned 400MW thin-film PV module factory in Colorado for at least 18 months as it re-focuses on technology development.

"Given all the industry dynamics over the last six months especially with the 50% decline in prices and the two-times over-capacity in the module market, we're taking this opportunity to re-look at our solar strategy," says Lindsay Theile, communications leader for GE's renewable energy business.

The US industrial giant is cutting an undisclosed number of positions as part of the move.
