Update: Solar Dawn to fight on in Australia 'but PPA needed soon'

The director of the 250MW Solar Dawn project in Australia insists his consortium will press on with efforts to get the plant built despite a major funding blow – but admits a power purchase agreement (PPA) is needed soon.

The future of the solar-thermal plant in the state of Queensland is in doubt after the state authorities pulled A$75m ($77m) of funding and the Areva-led consortium said it was unable to meet financial close.

According to a statement from Australia’s federal energy minister Martin Ferguson, Queensland's Liberal National Party (LNP) government has terminated its funding deed to the Solar Dawn project in Chinchilla and the “fate of the project now hangs in the balance”.
