German heavyweight Bosch backs EU tariffs on Chinese PV

German industrial giant Robert Bosch has thrown its weight behind SolarWorld’s quest to see anti-dumping and countervailing tariffs imposed on Chinese PV cells imported into Europe.

Franz Fehrenbach, who yesterday became chairman of the supervisory board after spending nine years as chief executive of the €50bn ($63.1bn) Bosch group, has urged EU politicians to introduce tariffs on Chinese cells to offset what he views as “clear” evidence of dumping.

Fehrenbach says that allowing Chinese manufacturers to balloon to their present size largely on the back of the German market has been a “political misdirection” in recent years, and as a result “the bankruptcies are piling up”.
