PV firms voice fears over SolarWorld’s China battle

SolarWorld appears increasingly isolated as it looks to bring an anti-dumping case against Chinese manufacturers in the EU, with a number of European PV executives claiming such a move would be damaging to both the global solar industry and the broader German economy.

Emboldened by the US Department of Commerce’s preliminary decision to impose anti-dumping tariffs on Chinese cell makers, SolarWorld chief executive Frank Asbeck recently reaffirmed his long-standing threat to open a second, European front in his legal battle.

But a number of European PV players, such as Udo Möhrstedt, chief executive of German system integrator IBC Solar, warn that such a move would have negative consequences.
