350MW PV project approval a first in US Indian Country

Construction is set to begin later this year on a 350MW project that would be the first utility-scale solar development on Native American lands in the US.

US Interior Secretary Ken Salazar approved the K Road Moapa Solar project, to be built on Moapa Band of Paiute Indians tribal trust land in southern Nevada.

The DOI -- which includes the Bureau of Indian Affairs, manager of natural resources on some 222,580sq km of tribal trust lands throughout the US -- has now approved 31 large renewable energy projects.
