Recurrent selling 100MW of PV to Mitsubishi, Osaka Gas

Recurrent Energy, the North American solar project development unit of Sharp, is selling a majority stake in a 100MW portfolio in Ontario to Mitsubishi and Osaka Gas.

The projects are part of Recurrent's 200MW development pipeline in Ontario, which has nurtured a booming solar market with a generous feed-in tariff.

The Japanese purchasers will acquire the projects -- taking equal shares -- when they reach commercial operation, expected next year. Recurrent intends to maintain a minority stake in the assets, which have 20-year power purchase agreements with the Ontario Power Authority.

Recurrent chief executive Arno Harris, newly elected chairman of the US Solar Energy Industries Association, positions the transaction as a sign of maturity for the industry.
