US PV on track for banner year as 506MW is added in first quarter

The US solar market is off to a booming start in 2012 with first-quarter PV installations of 506MW – up 85% from a year earlier and the second-highest quarterly addition on record.

Market analyst GTM Research – which prepares the quarterly market report with the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) – sees the US growing to a 3.3GW market in 2012, taking an 11% global share, and establishing itself as "one of the few major markets (along with China, India and Japan) that can expect continued growth for the foreseeable future".
