Aleo to shut Spanish factory as it battens down the hatches

Faced with the choice of expanding capacity at its Spanish module factory or closing the plant altogether, Germany’s Aleo Solar has chosen in favour of the latter option.

Aleo chief executive York zu Putlitz says the 20MW plant in the Spanish village of Santa Maria de Palautordera will be shut down by the end of the year, affecting nearly 100 workers.

“The only alternative to closure would have been a substantial increase in the capacity,” zu Putlitz adds, but says such a move does not make sense in the current environment.
