Canadian group unveils plans for 50MW of PV in Ghana

Canadian developer Episolar is poised to build a 50MW PV power plant in Ghana – the largest such installation in West Africa, according to the company.

Episolar’s subsidiary Siginik Energy has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to buy power from the project for 25 years.

The plant will create 800 jobs in northwest Ghana, according to Siginik, which expects to begin construction at the site within six months but gives no further details of schedule or technology suppliers.

Siginik and state-owned ECG plan to build more PV plants in Ghana, where an extra 5GW of capacity is needed to keep pace with growing demand, a statement says.
