Chinese solar group could cause confusion - US SEPA

A new group of Chinese solar manufacturers established in the wake of the US anti-dumping ruling has raised the hackles of the Solar Electric Power Association because it chose a name with the same acronym.

The Solar Energy Promotion Alliance, which includes major Chinese manufacturers Suntech, Yingli, Trina and Canadian Solar, aims to work together to reduce the tariffs of about 31% proposed in a May ruling by the Department of Commerce.

But Julia Hamm, president of the Solar Electric Power Association, fears the Chinese group's name will be confused with that of her own, which has used the SEPA acronym since 2000.
