SunPower carries Tenesol factory across the finish line

SunPower commissioned a 44MW module plant originally developed by Tenesol in northeastern France, as French energy giant Total continues to integrate its burgeoning solar family.

Located in an industrial park in Porcelette, in the region of Lorraine near the German border, the plant’s 80 workers will produce 150,000 modules a year using SunPower’s high-end Maxeon cells.

Tenesol was long owned jointly by Total and state-owned utility EDF, and has an unparalleled footprint in the off-grid PV markets across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Last year Total gained full control of Tenesol, and followed up by splashing out $1.37bn for a two-thirds stake in California-based SunPower, which makes the highest-efficiency modules on the global market.
