UK government sets out new PV FIT terms after year of uproar

The UK solar sector is poised to enter a more stable phase after the government launched its long-term PV feed-in tariff (FIT) plan – although many companies will struggle to adapt in the near-term.

After a year of controversy – culminating in the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) losing a lengthy court battle over its attempt to retroactively cut support for PV – the government put forward a template for three-monthly FIT reductions that it claims will put the sector on a “predictable, certain and sustainable” path.

Compared to its original plan for paring back support this summer, the new FIT contains a number of concessions to the industry.
