Queensland to honour $73m pledge to 250MW Solar Dawn

Queensland’s newly-elected government will honour a commitment to provide A$75m ($73.2m) of funding for Solar Dawn, giving a boost to the prospects of the 250MW solar-thermal project following previous doubtful noises from the Australian state's incoming premier.

“The government will honour its contract on the Solar Dawn project,” Minister for Energy and Water Supply Mark McArdle tells Recharge in a statement.

The Liberal National Party swept into office in March – led by former Brisbane Lord Mayor Campbell Newman – committing to abolish eight of the previous Labor administration's environmental funds, including its contribution to Solar Dawn. "If we can exit this project and save, I think it is A$75m, we will,” Newman said at the time.
