China's GCL-Poly and Spain's Isofoton link for 1GW PV build

China’s GCL-Poly and Isofoton of Spain have announced plans to co-develop 1GW of PV capacity around the world.

The two have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will also see them form a joint-venture company to make solar trackers for use at the projects they build. No timeframe is given for the 1GW target.

Under the terms of the MoU, GCL will arrange project finance and engineering, procurement and construction services for the new plants. The Chinese group will also provide all the wafers and “a portion” of the cells used.

Isofoton will supply the modules for the plants, as well as PV and high-concentrating PV (HCPV) solar-tracker equipment.
