eSolar partners Sanmina-SCI to cut manufacturing costs

Concentrating solar power (CSP) technology developer eSolar is partnering contract manufacturer Sanmina-SCI to improve the scalability and cost of its power plants.

California-based eSolar, which develops projects using its modular power-tower technology relying on pre-fabricated components to speed installation, says Sanmina's manufacturing and supply chain expertise will help it expand. The companies also plan a joint engineering effort.

"As we continue to pursue large-scale solar projects worldwide, we need a partner who will optimize our products for manufacturability, scalability and cost-efficiency," says Gary Breton, eSolar senior vice president of operations. "Their expertise will enable manufacturing cost reductions allowing eSolar to become even more cost-competitive."
