Agua Caliente is biggest PV array in US with 100MW in place

The Agua Caliente project in Arizona has staked its claim as the largest PV plant in North America, with 100MW of First Solar thin-film panels installed and generating power for the grid.

First Solar, which developed the project and is building it for NRG Energy and MidAmerican Solar, will eventually install 290MW in the desert of Yuma County.

The work is due to be completed in 2014.

Last year, billionaire investor Warren Buffett’s MidAmerican Energy Holdings bought a 49% stake in the project from NRG.
