Yingli stunned its opponents with low prices at two public tenders in China

Chinese solar companies are offering panels at rock-bottom prices for local projects as they seek to offload stock from a bloated global market.

Yingli, seen as a top-tier company, stunned competitors by bidding record low prices in two public tenders last month.

It won a 30MW project in Ningxia province in early March with a module price of only 5.18 yuan ($0.82) per watt (W), well below the recent average of 5.5-6 yuan. Soon after, it bid 4.99 yuan/W for a 20MW project in Gansu province being developed by the Beijing Solar Power Research Institute.
