Soitec gets finance for 50MW South Africa CPV plant

French concentrating PV (CPV) developer Soitec has secured finance from South Africa’s Investec bank to build a landmark 50MW plant in the country’s Western Cape region.

The development, located in Touwsrivier, near the company’s existing 70kW Aquila pilot facility, will feature fifth-generation Concentrix technology, which has demonstrated in-field efficiencies of over 28%.

“With financing now in place, we are moving forward to provide South Africa with its first large-scale CPV renewable-energy plant,” says Soitec chief executive André Jacques Auberton-Hervé.

The French company built a 500kW CPV plant near Durban that helped to power the United Nation’s recent climate change summit.
