Bosch delays start of work at $690m Malaysian PV plant

Bosch will wait before proceeding with the Malaysian factory

German engineering group Bosch has confirmed it will delay construction at a planned PV plant in Malaysia, in order to allow the market to settle down and consider its technology options for the new factory.

The company was quick to clarify that it still intends to press ahead with the 640MW integrated factory after Siegfried Dais, head of Bosch’s solar division, told a German newspaper the company will wait for better technology before making the Malaysian investment.

However, Martin Hayes, Bosch’s managing director for Southeast Asia, confirms that construction will not begin until late 2012 at the earliest while the company evaluates “the most technologically advantageous direction” for the €520m ($690m) plant.
