Germans team-up to build 70MW PV plant near Alicante, Spain

Two German renewable energy specialists have joined forces to build a 70MW PV park in Spain.

BayWa and Wirsol will develop the solar farm – which they say will be Spain’s biggest PV power plant – on a site 70km northwest of Alicante.

The project will cost €150m ($199m) and is due for full-commissioning by January 2013.

BayWa and Wirsol have formed a joint-venture for the project, which will be connected to the Spanish grid in stages from June of next year.

The completed plant will supply about 130,000 people with renewable power, the two partners say.

Solar irradiation in Alicante is 40% higher than in Germany, they add.
