Chinese module-makers eye Taiwan as US trade row rumbles

Taiwan’s biggest PV cell-maker could be a beneficiary of US trade action against China’s solar exporters as they seek ways to avoid dumping duties, claims a company official.

Motech Industries has already seen an upswing in enquiries from Chinese module-producers.

The US International Trade Commission (ITC) gave a preliminary judgement last week that China’s solar cell and module manufacturers had hurt US-based competitors through unfair trade practices.

It is now up to the US Department of Commerce (DOC) to determine – possibly as soon as 12 January – whether alleged illegal subsidies and dumping occurred, and if so, the tariffs to be imposed on cell and module imports from China.
